The GemSense Certification Promise: Lab-Certified Crystals

Every single stone GemSense sells is tested and certified by SGL, an independent gemmological laboratory — and the certificate ships in the box with your bracelet. No “trust us, it’s natural” claims, no vague “energized by experts” language in place of proof. Just a lab report you can hold, check and verify. Here is exactly what that certification means, what the lab tests, and how you can verify your own certificate.

What does “lab-certified” actually mean?

A lab-certified crystal has been examined by a qualified, independent gemmological laboratory — not by the seller — using standard gemmological instruments. The lab confirms the stone’s identity (that your amethyst is actually amethyst, not dyed glass), that it is natural rather than synthetic, and issues a report with a unique number. The lab has no stake in the sale, which is the whole point: it is proof from someone who doesn’t profit from telling you what you want to hear.

At GemSense, certification is not an optional paid add-on. It is included with every bracelet, mala and stone we sell.

What the lab checks in every stone

  • Identity — the mineral is what we say it is: real Pyrite, real Rose Quartz, real Black Tourmaline.
  • Natural origin — the stone is mined, natural material, not lab-created synthetic or imitation glass/resin.
  • Physical properties — measurements such as refractive index and specific gravity that fakes cannot reproduce.
  • Treatments — whether the stone has been dyed or artificially treated (our stones are untreated, natural colour).

These are the same categories of checks used for precious gemstones — applied to every healing crystal we sell.

How to verify your GemSense certificate

Your certificate arrives with your order. To verify it:

  • Step 1: Find the unique report number printed on your certificate.
  • Step 2: Match the stone description on the certificate against your bracelet — stone name, bead form and size.
  • Step 3: Want independent confirmation? Email us at support@gemsense.in with your order and report number, and we’ll share the lab reference so you can confirm directly. We encourage this — verified customers are our best advocates.

Why so much of what’s sold as “crystal” isn’t

India’s crystal market has exploded — and so has the flood of dyed glass, resin beads and synthetic look-alikes sold as “natural healing crystals” on marketplaces and social media. Uniform machine-perfect colour, air bubbles inside beads, and paint concentrated around the drill holes are the classic giveaways. If a seller cannot show a lab certificate, you are relying entirely on their word.

We wrote a complete self-testing guide you can use on any crystal you own — from any shop: How to check if your crystal bracelet is real: 7 tests.

Our sourcing and grading standards

We source AAA-grade natural stones, hand-check every batch for cracks, dye and inconsistencies, and reject beads that don’t pass. Each bracelet is strung on durable elastic, cleansed before dispatch, and packed with its certificate. That’s also why our catalogue is deliberately small — around two dozen products we can fully stand behind, instead of hundreds we can’t.

Our promise: 100% authentic or your money back

If any GemSense stone is ever shown by a qualified gemmological lab to be other than what we claim, we will refund you in full. Combined with our 3-day easy returns and free delivery across India, there is no risk in choosing certified.

Common questions

Is certification really necessary for small crystal bracelets?

If you only care about the look, no. If you are buying for the stone’s traditional energy and value, yes — a fake stone carries none of what you paid for. Certification is the only conclusive answer.

Can a certificate itself be faked?

A dishonest seller can print anything, which is why the report number matters. Verify the number with the lab or with us — a fake certificate never survives verification.

Do you certify Rudraksha too?

Yes — our Rudraksha beads and malas are lab-tested for authenticity as well. Learn more in our 7 Mukhi Rudraksha guide.
